Frequently Asked Questions
Below are the answers to frequently asked questions by those researching medical practice management, billing, and EMR software.
- What is an ASP?
- iSalus healthcare is an “ASP”, an Application Service Provider. Application Service Providers host software from centralized data centers, providing access over dedicated, high-speed networks or the Internet. There are several different “flavors” of the ASP model. The iSalus healthcare solutions are truly web-based, delivered over the Internet.
- Why utilize an ASP instead of installing the software in my office?
- ASP’s can minimize the risks, costs and complexities of implementing new software. They allow medical practices and medical billers to focus on their core competency of providing patient care and claim reimbursement, rather than spending time and money on purchasing and maintaining hardware, software, databases, and networks.
- Why web-based?
- Web-based ASP’s, like iSalus healthcare’s solutions, radically simplify software ownership and maintenance. The iSalus healthcare solutions do not require any specialized hardware or software (see requirements), utilizing the most common and cost effective components in the market today. In addition, the only "networking" requirement is that you have a broadband internet connection. Other benefits include:
- Allows the smallest and most resource constrained organization access to leading edge technology
- Minimal up-front costs
- Scalability ensured
- Extract yourself from “non-core” activities
- HIPAA Compliant security provided
- Data backup automated
- 24x7 access from anywhere: office, home, clinic, hospital, etc...
- What type of hardware do I need to run the iSalus healthcare solutions?
- There’s a good chance you already have the infrastructure in place to run our products. If not, the requirements are minimal compared to a traditional client server windows application or an ASP running on terminal services. See the requirements page for details.
- Who owns my data?
- iSalus healthcare is a steward of your data. Ownership of the data entered into the iSALUS healthcare system resides with the client. If at any time you require a copy of your raw account data, it will be provided to you.
- Is my data backed up?
- iSalus healthcare has automated backup procedures in place. In addition, redundant database servers are in place to add another layer of confidence.
- Are the iSalus healthcare solutions HIPAA compliant?
- The iSalus healthcare solutions are “HIPAA Ready”. We use the term HIPAA Ready instead of Compliant because the ultimate determination of compliance resides with how the system is implemented and used in your practice. Please see our HIPAA page for more information.
